Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) offers North American-style PhD Program in Economics (240 ECTS).
About the program:
- This is a specially designed course program, the Stockholm Doctoral Course Program in Economics, Econometrics and Finance (SDPE), is organized by SSE jointly with Stockholm University for the PhD students in Economics and Finance.

Number of places: approx. 25 PhD students
Requirements:
- Applicant must hold university level degree, at least three semesters of economics courses (90 ECTS) including a thesis worth at least 15 ECTS
- Applicants studying in the first year of a Master’s program are welcome to apply. Students having Bachelor’s degree in economics in addition to two years of coursework in mathematics and statistics at the advanced Bachelor level will also be considered
- Applicants must take the general GRE test (Graduate Record Exam, institution code 7016, department code 1801) and GRE test scores should be reported directly to the school via the test center.
- Applicant must have a sufficient level of English to be able to participate. Applicants are required to provide evidence of English proficiency (TOEFL/IELTS). Language test results have a validity of maximum 4 years.
Financial Support:
- Selected students will receive a scholarship from the SSE.
- Stipend of SEK 13,500 per month (tax-exempted) for the first year

- University transcripts and certified copies of certificates from universities. A description of how exams are graded at applicant’s university
- A Statement of Purpose (in English)- max 1,500 words
- Applicant’s most advanced thesis within economics (in English).
- 2 letters of recommendation in English
