PhD Research Fellowship in Inorganic Materials Chemistry: PhD Research Fellowship in the field of Inorganic materials chemistry at the Department of Chemistry (KI)/Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN).
Starting date: 31.12.2017 (Tentatively).
Duration: The fellowship period is up to four years.
Overview:
- Work field: Li-ion battery technology / inorganic materials chemistry at SMN, KI, University of Oslo, in the NAFUMA section.
- The PhD fellow will be involved in the collaboration between academia, industry and end user within the newly established FME centre MoZEES (Mobility Zero Emission Energy Systems).
Research Topic / Tasks:
- The main topic for the PhD work will be related to describing and understanding stability and reaction mechanisms of cathode materials for Li-ion batteries, particularly at demanding or extreme conditions where undesired reactions and pathways may take place.
- Use of operando techniques, primarily X-ray based methods both in the home lab and at synchrotron facilites like ESRF, Grenoble.
- Modification of the materials and electrodes by coatings, using Atomic Layer Deposition, is foreseen with focus on changes in stability and mechanisms.
- A main partner in these investigations is the Defense Research Establishment (FFI) at Kjeller,
- Successful candidate must fulfil the specific requirements for accessing the FFI laboratories.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- The applicant must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian master degree within chemistry or a related field,
- Relevant specialization within inorganic chemistry, materials chemistry or materials science.
- The following requirements and aspects will be given major weight in the evaluation of the candidates.
- A good command of English is required
Required Experience The candidate should have documented experience in one or more of the below mentioned areas:
- Synthesis of inorganic materials
- Crystal structure determination and refinements
- Thermal analysis (TGA, DSC)
- Electrochemical characterization of solids and battery materials
- In-situ / operando studies based on X-ray methods
Fellowship: NOK 436 900 – 490 900 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority.
Reference: Position code 1017
Documents Required: The application must include:
- Application letter
- CV (summarizing education, positions and academic work – scientific publications)
