PhD (Science / Engineering) KU Leuven: PhD topic in numerical modelling of electrolytic pickling for the stainless steel industry at KU Leuven Belgium

Ref.: BAP-2019-307

This PhD proposal involves the development of such a numerical model to simulate the current density through the electrodes, electrolyte and the moving steel strip. With this model we should be able to access the influence of the pickling cell geometry, the material properties of the steel strip and the electrodes (anode, cathode), the electrolyte conductivity and temperature and the strip speed.

Requirements

  1. Highly motivated, enthusiastic and communicative researcher
  2. A Master of Science / Engineering, or a related field, from a reputable institute.
  3. Strong analytic skills are required, as evidenced by excellent study results.

Funding: As no funding is readily available to start the research, the job offer is conditional on the candidate successfully applying for a VLAIO Baekeland-mandate.

Please also attach an academic CV to your email. Do not directly apply in the online system as referred to below. This will be only necessary for selected candidates in a second stage. Note that if you do not receive a response to your email within three weeks, this means you have not been selected for the second stage.
