About the position:
  • The selected candidate will be employed at the Berlin site.
  • The Working Group 8.23 “Metrology for Magnetic Nanoparticles”, develops and validates measurement procedures for characterizing magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications.
  • Within a project funded by the DFG, German Research Foundation, the potential of magnetic noise magnetometry for the characterization of magnetic nanoparticles shall be explored.
  • The project will be carried out jointly with Ghent University (Belgium), where the possibility to obtain a PhD will be given.
  • The PhD project aims to systematically investigate the magnetic noise of different magnetic nanoparticles with highly sensitive, superconducting magnetic field sensors (SQUIDs).
  • Analysis procedures need to be developed allowing the quantitative assessment of the thermal noise magnetometry in relation to other existing methods for nanoparticle characterization.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must have successfully completed university studies (German “Diplom” or master) in experimental physics, medical engineering, physical engineering or a comparable subject and obtained a very good degree
  • Applicant to have proven knowledge in the field of “Magnetism of the Solid”, “Magnetic Nanoparticles”, and/or “Magnetic measurement techniques”
  • Applicant must be able and willing to get acquainted with and to further develop complex magnetic measurement techniques; conduct independent in-depth scientific work with an analytical approach; interested in experimental and theoretical work
  • Applicant must possess good communication skills and have a very good command of English and are able to present results convincingly both orally and in writing
