The Max Planck Institute for European Legal History is inviting applications for number of PhD students (m/f/d) for the newly established department “Multidisciplinary Theory of Law” directed by Professor Dr. Marietta Auer.

Requirements:
  • Applicants should be interested in fundamental questions of private law, the philosophy of law, legal theory, the sociology of law, law and economics, or comparative law.
  • Dissertation projects should ideally combine a number of these perspectives. Applicants should have passed the first German state examination in law with excellent success or hold an equivalent German or foreign university degree.
  • Applicants are expected to have a strong interest in conducting independent research on fundamental topics in jurisprudence.

Duration: fixed-term appointments for three years; in exceptional cases, a position can be extended for one additional year.
