Plant Biochemistry Laboratory has openings for two postdoctoral positions under the guidance of Prof. Dr. S. C. Zeeman at the Department of Biology.
Project: Mechanisms of Starch Biosynthesis in Plants
Plant Biochemistry lab investigates the pathways of carbohydrate metabolism and the molecular mechanisms that plants use to control them. New-fangled research projects will aim on the biochemical and cell-biological aspects of the biosynthesis of starch which is the key storage carbohydrate plants. This is a significant and active field of research as starch and other plant carbohydrates form the basis of human and animal nutrition and are renewable assets for industry.
The study will use a combination of complementary tools:
- molecular genetics in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana;
- in-vitro and in-vivo biochemistry,
- cell biology using superior confocal fluorescence microscopy and electron microscopy.
Qualifications:
- Candidate should hold a PhD degree with strong background in biology and an interest in plant sciences.
- Candidate should be committed to perform research of the highest quality and be eager about science.
- Location: The position is located in the city-center Campus of ETH Zurich, a globally renowned institution in basic and applied research.
- Understanding in any of the following would be beneficial: molecular biology and biochemistry, bioinformatics, fluorescence or electron microscopy, protein chemistry or mass spectrometry.
- Familiarity in German would be desirable.
Application Procedure:
- Curriculum Vitae
- List of publications
- Short statement of research interests (one page)
- Names of two referees
