Post-doctoral fellow in organic synthesis CNRS 1603 views

Introduction: In pursuing enhancing drug properties, pharmaceutical companies increasingly focus on synthesizing bioactive compounds with unconventional functional groups and pharmacophores. Among these, accessing aza-analogues of sulfur derivatives stands out as a promising opportunity to improve solubility, activity, target selectivity, and expand patents. A key aspect of this endeavor lies in preparing chiral optically active sulfinamidines, presenting a valuable synthetic challenge and opening doors to unexplored chemical territories. The enantioselective synthesis of these derivatives offers a pathway to understanding their configurational stability in diverse chemical environments.
Mission Overview:

The SulFourN2 project begins to unlock access to enantiopure sulfinamidines. As part of this mission, a postdoctoral research position in organic chemistry is available, focusing on catalytic asymmetric nitrene transfers under the umbrella of an ANR project.
Activities Involved:
• Organic synthesis and development of catalytic methods
• Selection of appropriate synthesis techniques, procedure development, and method operation
• Data validation and result interpretation
• Routine characterization of products
• Dissemination of findings
• Training and awareness of associated risks with techniques and products
Required Skills: Prospective candidates should possess:
• Strong background in organic and organometallic chemistry
• Experience in catalysis, preferably asymmetric
• Proficiency in classic analysis techniques in organic synthesis (TLC, NMR, HRMS, IR, etc.)
• Competency in utilizing bibliographic research tools
• Ability to work independently and within a team, especially in a multicultural setting
• Adherence to health and safety protocols
Work Context: This project is a collaboration between the Institut de Chimie des Substances Naturelles (ICSN) and the University of Grenoble-Alpes. The selected candidate will be based at ICSN, a CNRS research unit specializing in chemistry and biology. Situated on the Gif-sur-Yvette campus, ICSN is part of the Université Paris-Saclay. The candidate will join the “Organometallic Catalysis and Synthesis of Functional Molecules” team within the “Organic Synthesis and Catalytic Methods” department. The team comprises researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and doctoral candidates.
Constraints and Risks: The nature of research work in chemistry inherently entails occupational risks, which candidates should be mindful of.
