The ERC advanced grant SoilLife aims to develop innovative modeling platforms to quantify biophysical processes that affect microbial life within soil complex pore architecture and ever-changing aqueous microhabitats. The MicroScapesX project focuses on elucidating mechanisms and processes that guide microbial community self-assembly and function.

Insights concerning principles guiding microbial consortia spatial and temporal self-organization would benefit enhanced functioning multispecies systems for ecological and biomedical applications.

  Subject areas

  • Biophysical processes
  • Mathematical modeling skills
  • Physics, Engineering, Biology
  • Ecological and biomedical applications
  • Microbial landscapes (MicroscapesX)

Qualifications

  • Postdoctoral applicants must hold a recent doctoral degree in Environmental Sciences and Engineering or Physics.
  • Applicants should preferably have experience in individual-based (agent-based) modeling, microbial ecology, and quantitative aspects of environmental microbiology or systems biology.
  • Applicants should be familiar with programming languages such as Matlab.

 Application procedure

  • Application should include a CV, a short motivation letter, and contact information of two references.
