The Dynamic Polymers group within the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry at Wageningen University & Research is inviting application for a postdoctoral researcher to work on a project that is aimed at developing polymer foam-based (meta)materials that can be used as efficient sound-adsorbing materials.
About the project:
- This project, which was started as part of the Top Sector Chemistry Student Competition and which was ultimately the winning project, is now aiming at a more systematic study how foam-like polymer materials containing beads can be prepared, characterized and applied as sound-adsorbing materials.
- The task will be to firstly prepare the porous polymer foams containing a certain type, and size, of bead particles, making use of established approaches such emulsion-based or extrusion-based methods.
- Part of tasks will also be to explore ways to tune the pore size and the interaction between the bead inside the pore and the matrix.
- Thirdly, the selected candidate will study the sound-adsorbing properties of the metafoams as a function of their composition and structure.
- Based on these insights further improvements of the metafoams will be designed. Part of the work will also be in conjunction with an industrial partner that is involved in the project.
Requirements:
- Applicant must hold a PhD degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, preferably with experience in polymer synthesis and characterization;
- Applicant must have a track record of earlier work experience in the form of papers in peer-reviewed international journals in English;
- Applicant must be highly motivated and have excellent communication skills in oral and written English.
