Overview
Postdoc Research Fellow – Department of Chemistry (10676) West Virginia University Research Corporation in the Department of Chemistry is seeking applications for two (2) Postdoctoral Research Fellows. These positions will support Dr. Lisa Holland and her research group 100% of the time conducting experiments.
Research Field: Microfluidics, Capillary Electrophoresis separations of proteins, Enzyme base analysis, Fluorescence detections, Mass spectrometry.
The incumbent is expected to draw sound scientific conclusions from these experiments and assist in the preparation and publication of no less than two manuscripts annually in refereed scientific journals and in the preparation of grant proposals as needed and as allowed by the funding agency/agencies.
Major Contributions
Selected ideal candidate will:
1. Design and implement independent laboratory and field experiment activities according to protocol.
2. Perform independent experimental data analysis.
3. Draw sound scientific conclusions from these experiments.
4. Effectively communicate and defend experimental findings, data interpretation, conclusions, and significance.
5. Prepare results of experimental findings for presentation to colleagues and the sponsor; at professional/technical conferences; and/or, for publication in scientific journals, as directed.
6. Publish no less than two first author manuscripts annually in refereed scientific journals.
7. Search scientific literature to select and modify methods and procedures most appropriate for research goals.
8. Attend workshops and research conferences and to keep abreast of technological advances and current research findings.
9. Identify and assist with acquisition of funding from public, private, and governmental sources, including assistance with development of novel research proposals for sponsor submission.
10. Maintain detailed logs of work related activities, including accurate laboratory records and data on research methods, procedures, and results.
11. Assure compliance with research protocols and safety requirements. Oversee research facilities and personnel.
12. Maintain lab equipment; keep accurate inventory of lab assets; monitor and assure proper use and conditions of lab equipment. Write and present research/study status reports for review and use of the Principal Investigator.
13. Oversee and direct undergraduate and graduate researchers in the completion of experiments.
Required Qualifications
1. Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field. Proficiency in microfluidics, capillary electrophoresis, manipulation in analysis of biomolecules.
2. Excellent verbal and written skills. Excellent time and work load management skills. Strong interpersonal skills.
3. Ability to present results, organize and maintain documentation as required. Ability to work well within a team.
