The Noble Research Institute is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct basic and applied research on roots of forage grasses and legumes.

About the project:

• The project will involve characterization and phenotyping specific root architectural, morphological and anatomical traits for genome-wide association studies (GWAS) or quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping of segregating populations in the laboratory, hoop house and field.
• Applicants who have strong interests in translating basic knowledge from laboratory/greenhouse-grown plants to complex, field grown agricultural crops, are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Research will be in the Plant Cell Biology group under the direction of Dr. Elison Blancaflor, but will include extensive internal collaborations with the Root Phenomics group led by Dr. Larry York and the Small Grains Breeding group led by Dr. Xuefeng Ma.

Responsibilities;

• The successful applicant will be responsible for the design and implementation of experiments in the laboratory, greenhouse and/or field and data analysis and interpretation to support genome-wide association of root traits in wheat and model/crop plants.
• Implementation of microscopy techniques for root phenotyping, integrating experimental results to support pre-breeding efforts, timely design
• Implementation of research activities, preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and participation in the Institute’s professional development program.

Qualifications:

• Applicant must hold PhD in Plant Sciences, Plant Breeding, Genetics, Genomics or related area.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work well in a collaborative research atmosphere is required
