European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Nanobody Technologies for Structural Biology for period of 2 years. Candidate is expected to be highly motivated molecular biologist with protein biochemistry expertise to develop the use of single domain antibodies as a platform technology for structural and functional studies.
Study areas: Â Structural biology, X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy
Role and responsibilities:
- To establish an in vitro/in vivo nanobody selection approach to identify binders against selected membrane proteins, which then will be used as tools for structural (X-ray or Cryo-EM) and functional studies (e.g. Imaging, transport assays).
- The work aims at biological discoveries comprising both methodological and applied aspects.
- Candidates’ expertise will be accessible to all interested research groups and teams from the EMBL Hamburg Unit.
Requirements:
- A PhD degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics or Structural Biology (or a related field)
- Strong experience in molecular biology and protein biochemistry with a demonstrated record of accomplishments
- Ability to plan and pursue a research project independently and in a team
- Willingness to learn new skills as projects require
- Good communication, interpersonal and English language skills
- Experience in following may be advantageous: phage display or ribosome display technologies; structural biology (X-ray, Cryo-EM) of integral membrane proteins or larger protein complexes; experimental expertise in the field of membrane transporters; familiarity with eukaryotic expression systems
