Postdoctoral fellow in Mass Spectrometry Metabolomics and Lipidomics
Job Code: 10940
Organization: Berlin Institute for Health (BIH) Metabolomics Platform at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine
Main Responsibilities
- To provide biochemical and laboratory analytical support to the Metabolomics Platform of the BIH (Complex statistical support is largely provided by our bioinformaticians, but you will be expected to conduct basic statistical analyses including PCA and PLSDA yourself as part of the general analysis of data)
- To collaborate with others to ensure robust data quality and high quality outputs including the writing of scientific papers
- To continue using existing metabolomics pipelines to further the research of the BIH
- To develop and implement new analytical methods or pipelines as they are required
- Contribute to interdisciplinary biomedical projects: support experimental designs; present analysis results to coworkers and collaborators; integrate results with other omics data; contribute to interpretation of results; write scientific papers
- To work on improving data reproducibility
- Develop innovative scientific approaches when standard methods are not adequate
Field of Study: Metabolomics, Lipidomics, Mass Spectrometry, Biochemistry, Analytical chemistry, Pathway mapping, Omics data analysis, Applied statistics.
Requirements / Qalifications:
- PhD in metabolomics, biochemistry, analytical chemistry or related field
- Demonstrated experience of laboratory based metabolomics or mass spectrometry project work, including ability to complete projects to an excellent standard within reasonable timeframes
- Demonstrated substantial experience in independent mass spectrometry chemical analysis and biochemical and statistical interpretation (experience in metabolomics analysis is a major advantage, as is experience in liquid and gas chromatography)
- have good written and verbal communication skills in English (German language skills are a plus, but not essential)
- Advantageous if you are highly numerate with a good understanding of both computational and statistical processes, good knowledge of data processing and analysis of mass-spectrometry data (high and low resolution instruments, MS and MSn including fragmentation analysis, liquid and gas chromatography mass spectrometry is a strong plus)
- Good knowledge of statistical analysis of omics data, experience of functional analyses, particularly in metabolomics, including multivariate analysis and hierarchical clustering is a major advantage
- Motivated to succeed with a love of learning and a desire to keep challenging yourself
- Ability to learn quickly and to synthesize ideas from different subjects
- Team-orientated with excellent organizational skills including project management and good record keeping is important
- Have the ability to condense and present scientific results to both scientific and non specialist audiences
Fellowship: Remuneration is according to the German TVöD (Bund) up to scale (E13).
Duration: Appointments are for an initial period of two years with possibility of further extension.
Application Deadline: 22th May 2018.
