Postdoctoral position: Environmental Sciences and Engineering 2210 views

The School of Natural Sciences, College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (CoESE) at Bangor University is inviting applications for the above 3 year fixed-term.

About the position:
  • The postdoctoral researcher will fulfill a leading role on a Leverhulme Trust Research Project Grant that will investigate the mechanism of magnetoreception and its function in the navigation system of migratory bats.
  • The project is part of an ongoing collaboration between Bangor based principle investigator Professor Richard Holland of the Bangor Animal Navigation Group, Dr. Oliver Lindecke, Dr Christian Voigt at the Leibniz Institute of Zoo and Wildlife in Berlin and Dr Oskars Keišs at the University of Latvia.
  • Duties will include: designing experiments and collecting data on the response of migratory bats to manipulations of sensory systems and environmental cues, working independently and as part of a larger team of researchers, making a significant contribution to the dissemination of research results through publications, presentation at scientific meetings and knowledge transfer.

Requirements:

  • Candidates will have a PhD (or near completion) in a relevant subject (e.g. Zoology, Animal Behaviour, Ecology or Environmental Science, although due to the multidisciplinary nature of the field, those with a PhD in the physical sciences may also be considered) and ideally have recent relevant experience of whole organism experimental animal behaviour in a field or laboratory setting.
  • Candidates will be expected to commence 1st March 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter and the post is available until 29/02/2024.
