Postdoctoral position: Stem Cell and Cancer Research 1239 views

Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) is inviting applications form a highly motivated candidate for a postdoctoral position to join the Stem Cell and Cancer group headed by Salvador Aznar Benitah.

About the position:
  • The lab aims at understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the spatiotemporal regulation of adult stem cells in the healthy tissue, how they are deregulated during ageing and cancer.
  • Research in pediatric cancer has historically lagged behind compared to research in adult carcinogenesis.
  • The candidate will be involved in developing an ambitious basic and translational project aimed at understanding the molecular and cellular basis of the metastatic process in pediatric osteosarcoma.
  • The project is financed by the invaluable commitment and help of families affected by this disease, and will be developed in close collaboration with the oncology department of the Hospital Sant Joan de Deu in Barcelona.
  • The aim is to developing novel appropriate in vivo models using patient-derived material and mouse models to study the evolution of the disease from its onset to the development of metastases for which to date there are very few curative alternatives.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must hold PhD degree in life sciences
  • Strong background in mouse models; experience in epigenetic/transcriptomic studies and proteomics will be strongly valued
  • Experience in single cell RNA-seq will be strongly valued; experience in bioinformatic analysis (NGS) will be strongly valued
  • At least one strong publication as a first author from the PhD/early postdoc period
  • Good organizational and communication skills and ability to work independently (managing the project, supervise students, manuscript writing, etc).
  • Candidate must be fluent in English
