The department has an opening for a postdoc research position within the area of string theory and the AdS/CFT correspondence with an emphasis on non-relativistic gravity and holography. The position is full time and fixed term for 3 years, starting this Fall and is funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The funding includes a substantial travel budget.

Fellowship / Salary: £33,199 – £39,609 per annum

Overview

The position is funded from the research grant “What is Non-Relativistic Quantum Gravity and is it Holographic?’’ of the Leverhulme Trust. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to this research program but is also encouraged to conduct her/his own research.

Main Responsibilities

1.   To undertake research in relation to the subjects of non-relativistic gravity and holography (80-90%)

2.   To present work at a variety of workshops and conferences (10%)

3.   To undertake teaching in Mathematics (up to 5%)

4.   To undertake development training (up to 5%)

Requirements / Qualifications

1.   Candidates should hold a PhD in Mathematical/Theoretical Physics or Mathematical Sciences.

2.   Preference will be given to candidates with an expertise in the areas of: general relativity, the AdS/CFT correspondence and string theory.

Postdoctoral Teaching in the School of Mathematics

Candidates will have the opportunity to teach (but there is no requirement to do so).
