Postdoctoral Research in Mechanics UK

There is a Research Assistant opportunity to invent and 3D print interpenetrating lattice materials which can actuate, for example by infiltration with a fluid, in order to design materials of any given, strength, stiffness and toughness.

  1. The successful candidate must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Mechanics of Materials or related subject. The key responsibilities and duties are to conduct experimental research into the mechanics of lattices.
  2. The role holder is also expected to take part in collaborative work, contribute to seminars, take part in the research group’s activities and publish in the open literature.
  3. Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

They will have working experience of engineering materials and ideally previous research on modern manufacture and test methods, with an interest in materials optimisation, and a publication record.

Salary Ranges:

Research Assistant: £26,715 – £30,942 Research Associate: £32,816 – £40,322

Fixed-term:

The funds for this post are available until 31 December 2021 in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
