The Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM) at the University of Oldenburg invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher, Marine Biogeochemistry (m/f/d). The position is available for the substitution during maternity leave (~14 weeks) with potential extension for the time of optional additional parental leave (up to 12 months). The starting date is 23 March 2020
About the position:
- The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the Research Group for Marine Geochemistry within the framework of the DFG funded Collaborative Research Center Roseobacter (TRR 51) within project A8 “Linking the exometabolome of selected pelagic organisms of the Roseobacter group to marine dissolved organic matter”.
- The substitute will take over experimental work with microbial pure and mixed cultures. Additional tasks include the chemical analyses of dissolved organic matter, as well as evaluation and interpretation of complex data sets both from laboratory experiments and from natural marine environments.
- Experiments with microbial pure and mixed cultures to study their exometabolomes.
- Chemical analyses for molecular characterization of exometabolome and dissolved organic matter samples using ultrahigh resolution mass spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC/UPLC).
- Integration of information on bacterial exometabolome and marine dissolved organic matter composition and relation to (meta)genomic and (meta)transcriptomic information.
- Multivariate statistical evaluation and interpretation of complex data sets.
Requirements:
- Applicant must hold academic university degree (master or equivalent) in natural sciences and PhD in Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, or related fields.
- Documented experience with experimental work with pure and mixed bacterial cultures.
- Experience with chemical analyses of dissolved organic matter, in particular HPLC and ultrahigh resolution mass spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS).
- Documented experience in multivariate statistics, and programming with “R” or “Matlab”.
- Ability for and willingness to work in a multidisciplinary, international team and to communicate with external partners.
- Very good command of spoken and written English.
Applications:
Applications to be submitted by email in a single pdf-file to susanne.wendeling@uni-oldenburg.de including:
- Cover letter
- CV
- List of three references
- Qualifying documentation (final academic records, list of publications, awards)
- Research statement outlining the required documented expertise (one-page)
