Postdoctoral researcher position in Economics 609 views

Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in Economics. The Munich Center for Economics of Aging (MEA) at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy studies, evaluates, anticipates and accompanies the micro- and macro­economic aspects of demographic change. The post-doctoral researcher (m/f/d) must have sound knowledge of macroeconomic theory and economic modeling.

Duration: initially for two years; may be extended

Starting date: as soon as possible

About the research:
  • The selected candidate will model and simulate life-cycle decisions and their impacts on the macro-economy and on income and wealth inequality.
  • Possible objects of research are retirement decisions, savings behavior, education and health investments for both time-consistent and time-inconsistent individuals, and how such decisions change under social policy reforms.
  • These topics will be discussed within the context of demographic change and political developments both in Europe and worldwide.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must hold PhD in economics or close to finishing PhD
  • Strong interest in public economics and macroeconomic policy analysis,
  • Profound knowledge in economic theory (e.g. life cycle and OLG models, present-biased behavior),
  • Good knowledge in numerical methods in economics,
  • Programming experience in MATLAB and others (e.g. Fortran),
  • Fluency in English is required.
