Established in 1640, The University of Helsinki, is leader in universities for multidisciplinary research. Faculty of Medicine has virant environment to conduct different research programmes and comprises groups that integrate clinical, translational and biomedical research. Eija Pirinen’s research group is involved in deciphering the regulation of mitochondrial function by sirtuins, poly(ADP-ribose) polymerases and polyamines in obesity, fatty liver disease and inherited mitochondrial disorders.

Academy of Finland is funding this open postdoc position which aims to get insights into disease pathophysiology and to develop novel cure to boost mitochondrial function and metabolism. Both patient material (tissues, blood and cells) and genetically modified model organisms (worms and mice) are used in these studies.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in molecular and cellular biology, and cell culture methods.
  2. Prior experience in mitochondrial metabolism and mouse/worm experiments
  3. Good knowledge of written and spoken English is required.
  4. The candidate is also expected to co-supervise PhD students.

Important Considerations:

  1. The part-time position is planned for 1.9.2016 till 31.12.2016 with a possibility of increase to full-time position and further extension.
  2. Salaries will be based on the Universities salary scheme for teaching and research personnel composed of both task specific and personal performance components
