The Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry is looking for a position of Research Assistant in the field of Earth System Sciences with a focus on climate and ecosystems. The position is full time limited in time 31.08.2022.

About the position:
  • δO2/N2 and δAr/N2 measurements of atmospheric air and high-pressure tanks
  • Dual Inlet Stable Isotope Measurements (δ13C/δ18O Measurement of CO2 and δ15N /δ18O Measurement of N2O) and the corresponding sample preparation
  • Design, development and implementation of methods for the standardization of isotope measurements including primary calibration of international reference materials
  • Further development of analytical methods based on the existing equipment and the changing requirements of the institute
  • Supervision/consulting of students and scientists in the performance and application of isotope analyses
  • Contribution to experimental work and related scientific publications
  • Representative for the logistics of sample containers (bottle storage)
  • Support, maintenance and repair of device controlling computers (hard- & software)
  • Integration of new analytical methods into the existing infrastructure including connection of the control software

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must hold a university degree in Natural Sciences (Master’s degree or comparable), doctorate is an advantage.
  • Experience with scientific analytical methods and measurements of stable isotopes in particular
  • A high degree of motivation, reliability, personal responsibility, precise work ethic, time management and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Good written and spoken English and German skills
  • Experience in handling gases and gas samples
  • IT knowledge (hardware and software) including basic programming skills are desirable
