Research Areas

The main focus of the research will be on the exocrine pancreas, using human and rodent pancreases to investigate the role of SNARE proteins in autophagy fusion events that underlie pancreatic acinar injury as pathogenic mechanisms of pancreatitis. This involves comprehensive technical expertise in animal models including fine animal surgery to induce pancreatitis, high-level live-cell microscopy imaging, biochemical (immunoprecipitation) and molecular biology expertise (mutant construction, lenti/adenovirus construction). A second research focus will be in pancreatic islet biology in the role of SNARE proteins in insulin granule exocytosis, involving technical expertise in the above-mentioned assays.
