The group of catalytic process engineering of the laboratory bioenergy and catalysis at Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is inviting applications for a Research Associate position in Bioenergy with Emphasis on Process Engineering.

Tasks and responsibilities:
  • Participation in ongoing projects for the hydrothermal conversion of biomass (liquefaction, gasification, carbonisation) in the joint institute for biomass and resource efficiency of the PSI and the FHNW
  • Planning, execution, evaluation and documentation of experiments with different plants for the hydrothermal conversion of biomass
  • Support of the project management in the construction and operation of a pilot plant for the hydrothermal gasification of biomass
  • Writing project proposals in the field of bioenergy
  • Project management of newly acquired projects
  • Writing technical-scientific project reports for industrial partners and authorities
  • Assistance in guiding and guiding diploma students, interns, doctoral candidates, students (FHNW and other universities)

Requirements:

  • Applicant must hold University degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Technical Chemistry, preferably with dissertation, or master’s degree with several years of professional experience
  • Practical experience with biomass conversion technologies is an advantage
  • Experience in successfully leading applied R & D projects
  • Experience with process simulations (ASPEN plus) and techno-economic assessments are an advantage
  • Fluent knowledge of German; very good knowledge of English in spoken and written
