Scientist (Bioinformatician) position: Max Planck Institute 1447 views

Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics are inviting applications for a position of Bioinformatician in the Jenuwein group. The Jenuwein group studies molecular mechanisms that establish and maintain heterochromatin in mammalian cells. This position is available immediately and initially funded for two years.

Role and responsibilities:
  • Responsibilities include the bioinformatics analysis of genome-wide datasets, such as ChIP-seq and RNA-seq, as well as transcription factor motif analysis and analysis of other next-generation sequencing-based experiments.
  • A strong understanding of epigenetic mechanisms of gene regulation will also be necessary, in order to process, analyze, and interpret a variety of datasets, focusing particularly on repetitive DNA elements and chromatin modifying factors.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant is expected to be dedicated and motivated team player with strong communication skills and good command of the English language
  • Applicant must hold an academic degree in life science with PhD in bioinformatics or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Applicant will have a proven record in the analysis of genome-wide datasets and computational skills (Python/Perl, R/Bioconductor) in a Linux environment.
  • Applicant must have knowledge of alignment programs (such as STAR), RepeatMasker, and data analysis and visualization tools in R.
