REPIN, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen, has a number of PhD and Postdoc positions available from August 1, 2019, or soon thereafter. The positions are part of the newly funded Novo Nordisk Foundation Challenge Center REPIN- rethinking protein interactions.
PhD positions in IDP structures, ensembles and interactions: 2-4 PhD positions (3 years) will be available for the studies of IDPs, ranging from highly charged, short IDPs to very long expanded or compact IDPs.
Qualifications:
- Protein expression and purification including optimization of protocols
- Good oral and written English competences
- It will be highly advantageous to have one or more of the following qualifications:
- Experience with biophysical techniques as ITC, stopped-flow, CD or fluorescence spectroscopy or small angle X-ray scattering
- Protein NMR spectroscopy including set-up and spectral analyses
- Cellular and molecular biological techniques
- Applied bioinformatics
- Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
Post doc position in transcription factor activation domains: A post doc position (2 year’s with the possibility of extension) will be available to study how protein disorder regulates the function of transcription factor activation domains. Focus will be on their interactions with general transcriptional regulators, higher order complexes and participation in liquid-liquid phase separation processes. The project will elucidate how compaction properties of a disordered chain and coacervation will influence activation mechanisms.
Post doc position in yeast genetics and biophysics: A post doc position (2 years) will be available for the studies of disordered proteins in yeast. The project is aimed at structural and functional characterization of small IDPs by NMR spectroscopy and various cellular assays translating observations from in vitro to in vivo.
Qualifications:
- A highly motivated applicant with a PhD degree in Chemistry, Biophysics or Genetics, Biophysics or Biochemistry similar fields with documented competences in:
- Protein expression and purification including optimization of protocols
- Biophysical studies of IDPs
- Biophysical techniques as ITC, stopped-flow, CD, NMR or fluorescence spectroscopy, or small angle X-ray scattering
- Cellular and molecular biological techniques
- Applied bioinformatics
- Molecular biology with yeast and E. coli
- Biophysical techniques as ITC, stopped-flow, CD, NMR or fluorescence spectroscopy, or small angle X-ray scattering
- Protein chemistry Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Good English oral and written competence
Application:
- Application (in English) must be submitted electronically and include the following:
- A 1-page cover Letter, explaining the applicant´s background, key competence in relation to the position and reasons for applying
- CV including a list of peer-reviewed publications (may include papers under review)
- Diploma and transcripts of records (BSc and MSc)
- Other information for consideration, e.g. list of publications (if any),
- Full contact details (Name, address, telephone & email) of 1-3 professional referees
