Severo Ochoa Postdoctoral Programme: Neuroscience; 6 fellowships 1139 views

The Institute for Neuroscience has started a Postdoctoral Programme linked to the 2018-22 “Severo Ochoa” Award for Spanish Centres of Excellence. The candidates are  expected to be exceptional and highly motivated young investigators interested in working in any of the priority research lines of Strategic Plan

Number of fellowships: up to 6 Postdoctoral fellowships

Duration of fellowships: 2 years

Priority topics (Strategic Plan):
  • General principles underlying the connectivity of specific classes of neurons within defined neural circuits, how these rules emerge during development and pathological consequences of deviating from the normal developmental programmes.
  • Neural activity influence on brain wiring, connectivity alteration by manipulation of neuronal activity, and alter compensation of sensory loss by activity modulation in the spared circuits.
  • Brain maturation and behaviour shaping by early stress, intestinal flora and hormones in puberty. Alteration of the neuronal epigenome as a result of these experiences.
  • Activity-driven gene expression and chromatin modification influence on brain function, and dynamic modulation of cortical interneurons properties by network activity.
  • ‘Synaptic gain of information transfer imposed by the strategic distribution of presynaptic and postsynaptic receptors, and the importance of genes related to synaptic function in brain disease.

Requirements:

  • The call is opened to experienced researchers of any nationality with a doctoral degree.
  • Candidate’s PhD must have been completed before the application deadline.
  • Mobility (i.e. not having carried out her/his main activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the call deadline) will be appreciated and positively evaluated.

How to apply:

  • Before submitting the application, prospective candidates must contact and get the support of a Principal Investigator (PI) of one of the research teams in the IN. This commitment is required for submitting the application.
  • Applications must include the following documents (in PDF format):

  • Short CV
  • Motivation letter (max. 1 page)
  • Brief description of the 2-yr project, which must fit at least one of the topics defined in the Strategic Plan (max. 2 pages)
  • Two letters of support.
