The Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship (SARF) program was launched in 2007 to provide exceptional visual artists from all over the world an exclusive opportunity to work with Smithsonian museums, research sites, collections, and scholars, so they may conduct research that inspires new artwork.
Duration: SARF Fellows spend 01-02 months in residence at the Smithsonian immersed in its unparalleled collections and multidisciplinary scholarly expertise, building connections between art, science, history and culture.
Eligibility:
- Applicant must secure a nomination and submit a complete and valid nomination form to SIOFI@si.edu before the closing date.
- Applicant must have received an email from Office of Fellowships and Internships confirming receipt of nomination form.
- Applicant must have received an email from the Office of Fellowships and Internships inviting to apply.
- Applicant must be exceptional visual artist with strong exhibition history beyond the home region.
- Applicant must have demonstrated record of artistic achievements.
- Applicant must exhibit ability to create a strong research proposal that utilizes Smithsonian specific resources; to independently secure a nomination and a Smithsonian advisor.
- Applicants can be of any nationality; English proficient (written and spoken).
- Applicant must have capabilities to independently arrange accommodation and travel; Self-assured and flexible
Stipends and Allowances:
- $4,500/month
- Travel Allowance
- One-time relocation cost
- Research Allowance of up to $2,000
