Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation & DST: research awards 1953 views

DST (Department of Science and Technology), Govt. of India in association with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is inviting joint proposals from universities and research institutions in India and Switzerland to conduct research under the Indo-Swiss collaborative research.

Themes under the Indo-Swiss collaborative research:

  • Glaciology, hydrology and meteorology
  • Socio-ecological systems

Each research network having a thematic focus will conduct research in the following two regions:

  • Western and Central Himalayas
  • Eastern Himalayas

Funding: The overall funding for collaborative research is CHF 1.5 million (for Swiss partners) and INR 10 crore (for Indian partners).

Duration: 3 years

Key features required for the composition of the research networks:

  1. Each research network must have one thematic focus covering both the regions.
  2. Each research network must consist of one lead Indian and one lead Swiss University/research institution.
  3. The lead organizations must nominate one of them as the coordinator for the joint research.
  4. At least 2 Indian Universities/research institutions, each from Western & Central and Eastern Himalayas must be part of each research network.
  5. At least 2 Swiss universities/research institutions must be part of each research network.
  6. At least one of the Indian/Swiss partner university/research institutions in each research network must have social science background.

Eligibility:

  • The research network must have the experience of carrying out research projects comparable with the present proposal in terms of scope and complexity.
  • All researchers working at universities/research institutions in India and Switzerland are eligible to apply.
  • The research team must be employed at a university/research institution that does not conduct research for commercial purposes.
  • Subcontracting to commercial service providers is allowed, provided they are not lead organizations.
  • None of the universities/research institutions should submit more than one proposal as lead.
  • Non-Government Organizations based in India working on research areas relevant for the collaborative study can also be part of the networks but not as lead.
