TEAGASC PhD Walsh scholarship: Sustainable land use-exploring the potential of alternative proteins 759 views

The PhD scholarship is a joint research project between University College Cork (UCC) and Teagasc. This PhD opportunity is part of the UPROTEIN project funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. UPROTEIN (Unlocking Protein Resource Opportunities to Evolve Ireland’ Nutrition), is a research programme that aims to create new scientific and technological knowledge with long-term potential to re-engineer Ireland’s agri-ecological system.  This project will examine how the natural resources can be diversified to optimise the nutrition while creating circularity through use of the non-protein residual biomass.

Requirements:
  • Candidate must hold a good primary degree (First or Upper Second-Class Honours) and/or master’s degree in GIS, data science, or related discipline.
  • Prior experience of these skills in the context of agri-environmental sciences or other related discipline is advantageous.
  • Applicant must be a highly self-motivated candidate with an ability and interest in cooperation with colleagues in other sciences and a good communicator in both written and oral format.
  • Candidate will be required to visit different locations in Ireland for data collection, a full driving license would be advantageous.
