Two PhD fellowships: Lanthanide Solution Chemistry 1305 views

Two (02) PhD fellowships in Lanthanide Solution Chemistry at the Nano-Science Center & Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen.

Duration: The positions are available as a three year PhD fellowship or in the Integrated MSc and PhD Scheme.

Requirements

  1. The candidates should be motivated and independent
  2. Applicants should hold a BA or a MSc degree in chemistry with good results and have good English skills.
  3. Statements from project supervisors and relevant work experience

Research group: Supervision of Associate Professor Thomas Just Sørensen. The fellowships are supported by the Villum Foundation.

Project Overview

  1. Fellowships within preparatory chemistry, each candidate should clearly indicate if they consider themselves experts within the field of organic synthesis or coordination chemistry.
  2. The main project is designing new ligands for lanthanide ions.
  3. The candidate will work on making new tailored ligands for trivalent lanthanide ions with specific applications in mind.
  4. The candidate may work primarily with organic ligand synthesis, or primarily on studying the complexation process.
  5. All experimental work relies on coordination chemistry and various forms of spectroscopy.

 Tasks Involved

  1. To manage and carry through your research project
  2. Attend courses
  3. Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis
  4. Teach and disseminate your research
  5. To stay at an external research institution for a few months, most likely in Oxford, Boston, Tallahassee, Durham and Berkeley
  6. Work for the department

Fellowships: The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 317.459 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 43.852).
