Two (02) PhD fellowships in Lanthanide Solution Chemistry at the Nano-Science Center & Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen.
Duration: The positions are available as a three year PhD fellowship or in the Integrated MSc and PhD Scheme.
Requirements
- The candidates should be motivated and independent
- Applicants should hold a BA or a MSc degree in chemistry with good results and have good English skills.
- Statements from project supervisors and relevant work experience
Research group: Supervision of Associate Professor Thomas Just Sørensen. The fellowships are supported by the Villum Foundation.
Project Overview
- Fellowships within preparatory chemistry, each candidate should clearly indicate if they consider themselves experts within the field of organic synthesis or coordination chemistry.
- The main project is designing new ligands for lanthanide ions.
- The candidate will work on making new tailored ligands for trivalent lanthanide ions with specific applications in mind.
- The candidate may work primarily with organic ligand synthesis, or primarily on studying the complexation process.
- All experimental work relies on coordination chemistry and various forms of spectroscopy.

Tasks Involved
- To manage and carry through your research project
- Attend courses
- Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis
- Teach and disseminate your research
- To stay at an external research institution for a few months, most likely in Oxford, Boston, Tallahassee, Durham and Berkeley
- Work for the department
Fellowships: The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 317.459 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 43.852).
