The Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (MPIfR) is recruiting up to two postdoctoral researchers / staff scientists (m/f/d) in radio astronomy. These positions are based in the Radio Astronomy / VLBI department led by Prof. J. Anton Zensus.
About the research:
- Research topics focus on the investigation of compact extragalactic objects (AGN) and their broad-band emission, with a special emphasis on very-high-resolution studies.
- These include mm- and space-VLBI imaging and blazar monitoring with MOJAVE/TANAMI.
- The MPIfR operates a state-of-the-art VLBI correlator, the 100-m radio telescope in Effelsberg (element of EVN and GMVA), the LOFAR DE1 station, which is part of the International LOFAR Telescope, and it is a major partner of APEX in Chile (element of EHT).
- Technical mastery of radio interferometry techniques and VLBI is of advantage, as well as a good publication record.
- The appointees will be expected to engage in our central research activity on the study of jet physics at the nearby environment of super-massive black holes in the centre of active galactic galaxies.
- The appointee may also take the role of assistant scientist to engage in the group-driven operations of the Global Millimetre VLBI Array and the Event Horizon Telescope (including observations, correlation, calibration, and analysis).
- Candidates are expected to have completed their PhD thesis examination at the moment of starting their appointment with us.
- The initial appointment is for two years with the possibility of extension after review.
Applications:
Apply by submitting CV, academic certificates (PhD; in its absence MSc and expected completion date), list of publications, research interests, and have three letters of recommendation sent to the MPIfR application portal.
