The Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award is aimed at international undergraduate students. The students should demonstrate:

  • Exemplary academic achievement record
  • Leadership skills
  • Involvement in student affairs and community service
  • Achievements in fields such as the performing arts, sports, debating or creative writing, or external academic competitions and examinations.

Scholarship details:

  • The successful students would receive awards proportional to their financial need.
  • Financial need is determined by tuition, fees, and living costs, minus the financial contribution that can be made annually by the student or his/her family.
  • A standard needs-assessment is based on the financial information provided by the candidate and their family.
  • The Award can be renewed for up to 3 additional years of undergraduate study or to degree completion, whichever is less.
  • The award can be renewed provided the candidate achieves satisfactory academic scores in his/her faculty, continue to demonstrate financial need, and maintain the Canadian study permit (student visa).

Eligibility criteria: The candidate must be:

  • an international student who will be studying in Canada on a Canadian study permit
  • entering UBC from a recognized secondary school, college, or other university.
  • applying for his/her first undergraduate degree.
  • fulfilling UBC’s all admission requirements, including general and degree-specific requirements and the English Language Admission Standard.
  • must demonstrate superior academic achievement (at least an A average or equivalent standard).
  • must demonstrate a level of financial need that would otherwise prevent the candidate from pursuing a UBC degree.

The UBC English Language Admission Requirement must be completed by 31st  January 2020.
