University of Tampere offers 17 Doctoral Progammes in all fields of study. 120 new doctors graduate every year from the University. The PhD degree takes approximately 4 years and is worth 240 ECTS credits. PhD studies need independent research and a Doctoral dissertation, which is defended in public.
PhD training in the University takes place in the University’s Doctoral School consisting of the doctoral programmes of respective academic Schools. All PhD students of the University are members of a doctoral programme and of the University Doctoral School. Doctoral training and doctoral degree consist of individual scientific or artistic work, subject specific studies and other studies. Special attention is paid to internationality and methodological, working life and researcher skills.
