The UNU (United Nations University) Office of the Rector is inviting applications from highly qualified students to work as Junior Fellows at the headquarters in Tokyo. Junior Fellows are hired through a competitive application process twice per year.

The fundamental principles of the Junior Fellows Internship Program are focused on creating active, stimulating and rewarding experience for graduate level students and young professionals. Successful applicants will contribute to the work of the Office of the Rector, the UNU, and the UN system as a whole. The program offers opportunities for the expansion of new skills and knowledge and is a exceptional and constructive setting for the practical application of capacities acquired through graduate studies.

Qualifications:
  • Candidate must be currently undertaking or has recently completed postgraduate studies (master’s or doctoral)
  • Age: below 32 years
  • Experience: not more than 5 years in related field
  • Language: native or near fluent command of written and spoken English
  • Computer skills: advanced, hands-on familiarity of standard office software
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest in the work of the United Nations and more specifically, in the work of the United Nations University.

Application Procedure: The application process is conducted in two stages.

  1. This stage of the application process is meant to measure the applicant’s motivation and background and assess how the applicant’s qualifications meet the criteria for selection. Following documents to be submitted: Application form, Cover letter (motivation for applying, your future plans of contributions to the Office of the Rector, future career goals), CV, Two letters of recommendation, Funding plans, Language certification
  2. The final stage- telephone or Skype interview. The interview will evaluate the applicant’s communication skills, interpersonal skills and proficiency in English.
