About Us

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is India’s central agency authorised to conduct the following examinations:

1. Civil Services Examination,
2. Engineering Services Examination,
3. Combined Medical Services Examination,
4. Combined Defence Services Examination,
5. National Defence Academy Examination,
6. Naval Academy Examination,
7. Special Class Railway Apprentice,
8. Indian Forest Service examination,
9. Indian Economic Service examination,
10. Indian Statistical Service examination,
11. Combined Geoscientist and Geologist Examination, and
12. Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandant) examination.

Main functions of the UPSC

1. Conduct examinations for appointment to the services of the Union.
2. Recruitment (Direct) by selection through interviews.
3. Appointment of Department officers on promotion, deputation and through absorption.
4. Framing and amendment of Recruitment Rules for various services and posts under the Government.
5. Disciplinary cases relating to different Civil Services.
6. On any matter referred to the UPSC, they can directly Advice the Government by the President of India.
