Big Science Data – two positions for a three-year project. DTU is looking for two academic employees for an exciting three-year project to develop new infrastructures and support functions for the rapidly increasing volume of research data at the university. The development work will take place in close interaction with researchers and departments, and with considerable national and international collaboration.
Project
The volume of data from research projects is growing to an unprecedented quantity and the many research data contain exciting opportunities to:
- exploit the collected data more intensively and in new contexts
- combine datasets across research projects
- uncover hidden and implicit knowledge in datasets
- establish new collaborations and promote and accelerate research and innovation.
The project will develop solutions to challenges such as: How do researches best organize and preserve data in order to fully document their research and facilitate that other researchers may benefit from the data? How are data and the access of others managed so that legislation and commercial considerations are taken into account? How does data management and data sharing become part of the merit system of research?
The project is led by an experienced project manager and is based in Bibliometrics & Data Management of the Office for Innovation & Sector Services.
About the tasks
You will be part of a small project team with extensive collaboration with departments and various parts of the administration. The tasks are:
- to create an overview of the departments’ challenges, needs and preferences as well as current solutions
- to perform practical pilot projects with the departments
- to identify best practices and specify the necessary infrastructure
- to develop and implement a support function for data management directed to researchers
- to establish a close interaction with and between the necessary support functions within IT, the library and the legal aspects
- to actively take part in the national projects on the area, e.g. National Forum for Research Data Management, which starts with a larger, joint training course in September and is expected to initiate more collaboration projects in the coming years
- to actively take part in international collaboration fora and development projects including the necessary travelling activities
- to take part in cross-disciplinary projects and activities in the office and the department.
Qualifications
We expect that you have experience in technical/scientific research (e.g. PhD) and a strong interest in research infrastructure and data management, also across the many subject areas of DTU.
Alternatively, you have experience in research documentation and research infrastructure and a strong interest in technical/scientific research and its framework and conditions as well as an interest in working closely with researchers and across disciplines with the development of research data management.

Bibliometrics & Data Management is newly established as the focal point of DTU for research analyses, research data and Open Science and has a total of seven employees. The Office for Innovation and Sector Services comprises seven areas and a total of 140 employees working with innovation, business development and entrepreneurship, research based services for the private and public sector, legal counselling and contracts, stakeholder management and provision and handling of scientific information.
Salary and terms of employment
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the relevant association agreement, e.g. the Confederation of Professional Associations. The job is a full-time job (37 hours per week). Employment is limited to three years.
The work place is at DTU Lyngby Campus, however, meetings at other DTU locations must be expected as the project involves researchers and departments of all of DTU.
