Rosa Luxembourg Foundation grants with funds from the Federal Foreign Office (AA) scholarships to foreigners who come to Germany for promotion or to conduct research as part of their promotion.

Eligibility criteria for foreign doctoral candidates (all conditions must be met):

  • Admission at a state or state-approved university in Germany or abroad
  • Supervision of a university teacher in Germany
  • very good college degree
  • society as part of the Rosa Luxembourg Foundation
  • very good knowledge of German (proof of language acquisition) – we do not promote German language courses!

In case of a doctorate at a German university (PhD admission in Germany needed) the maximum funding period is two years. Further extensions can be requested – twice each six months, in addition a maximum of one year for parents, for health reasons or otherwise severely compromises.

If you already have a scholarship / funding for his doctorate obtaining another institution, can only be funded by the RLS further, if this pre-supply was less than two years. Each pre-supply is counted in time, that is our maximum funding period of two years deducted.

Typically no PhD Completion Grants are awarded. Promoting a doctorate in addition to employment is not possible.

The production time for a research stay in Germany as part of a promotion at a foreign university (doctoral admission of foreign university required) depends on the time requirements of the research period; it amounts toa maximum of two years. In addition, extension possibilities such as those described above.

Private abroad in the country of origin or in third countries can not be promoted.

Fellowship: The monthly stipend is 1000 €, added a mobility allowance of 100 €

A double funding with other public funds is excluded, different scholarships are netted.
