DTU Physics is seeking a postdoc for 2 years to work on a project on hybrid continuous/discrete-variable optical quantum information processing.

In the section on Quantum Physics and Information Technology (QPIT), we conduct widely recognized research within a range of diverse topics, such as continuous-variable quantum information processing, quantum enhanced sensing, and engineering of solid state quantum systems.
The postdoc position is available on a recently initiated project within the area of hybrid cv/dv quantum optics, where photon-level operations are combined with the traditional tools of Gaussian, continuous-variable quantum optics.

The project has as the primary goal to experimentally demonstrate quantum teleportation of continuous-variable states using a novel hybrid scheme based on single-photon entanglement (Phys. Rev. Lett. 111, 050504 (2013)). It will be possible to follow alternative, but related research directions as well.

The project is funded by a Villum Foundation Young Investigator Programme grant.

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate will be part of a small team dedicated to developing a high performance platform for world-class hybrid cv/dv experiments. One important milestone will be to create and characterize by homodyne tomography a single photon source with record high fidelity.

Some of the tasks involved are:

  • experimental planning, design, and implementation,
  • development of electronics (detectors, control systems, conditioning circuits, etc.) in close collaboration with our electronic engineer,
  • theoretical and numerical simulation and analysis,
  • programming of experiment control software.

A limited amount of supervision of student projects will also be expected.

Qualifications
The candidate should have a PhD or equivalent degree in physics or engineering. He or she should be motivated and dedicated to do research of high standards and be able to work closely with other team members. We highly value scientific curiosity and creativity.

A strong background in experimental quantum optics is required, including experience with one or more of the methods involved in the project, such as

  • nonlinear optics, particularly parametric down-conversion,
  • phase space picture,
  • homodyne tomography,
  • single photon technology,
  • optical phase stabilization,
  • FPGA and microcontroller development,
  • Python programming.
