The Soil Chemistry Group at ETH Zurich is inviting applications for 2 Postdoc positions in Environmental Geochemistry. The positions are available under Prof. Ruben Kretzschmar. The research will be conducted within the ERC project “IRMIDYN: Iron mineral dynamics in soils and sediments: Moving the frontier toward in-situ studies”.
Role and responsibilities:
- The selected candidate will contribute to the development of novel approaches for investigating iron mineral transformations in redox-dynamic soil/sediment environments and their influence on trace element cycling.
- The selected candidate will support PhD students and conduct own research on selected iron mineral transformation processes and their influence on trace elements, using state-of-the-art experimental and analytical techniques.
- Both postdoc positions are funded for up to 4 years each.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be highly motivated for scientific research in environmental geochemistry and mineralogy and the fate of inorganic contaminants.
- Applicants must hold a PhD degree in a related field and possess a strong background in environmental geochemistry as well as a documented record of previous research accomplishments.
- Experience in one or more of the following techniques would be an advantage, but is not required: enriched stable metal isotope analysis, micro-Raman spectroscopy, synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and Mössbauer spectroscopy.
- Applicants must possess good knowledge of spoken and written English as well as excellent communication and team skills are expected.
Starting date: November 1, 2018
Applications:
- Apply online and include the following:
- Cover letter describing the motivation of the candidate for the position
- CV including addresses of 2-3 potential referees
- Copies of BSc/MSc and PhD transcripts
- Summary of the applicant’s PhD thesis (if already completed)
- Statement of research interests and career plan (maximum 2 pages)
