ATLAS announce the dedicated grant scheme (with the help from Fabiola Gianotti and Peter Jenni, Fundamental Physics Prize foundation) to support young and highly talented doctoral students in particle physics research including computing for physics and allow them to attain world class exposure, supervision and training within the ATLAS collaboration.
ATLAS PhD Grant is intended at graduate students preparing a doctoral thesis in particle physics including computing for physics to spend one year at CERN followed by one year support also at the home Institute. Candidates can have a thesis subject decided at their home university or they may be looking for a thesis subject.

- Evidence of enrollment in a collaborating university
- Statement of research interests
- Reference letter-2
- Acceptance letter from the ATLAS group leader (this could be one of the referees)
- Candidates who are not able to produce one of these documents will not be considered during the selection process.
Eligibility conditions:
- Student should be enrolled at a university that is a member of the ATLAS collaboration.
- Candidate should have started or are about to start a doctoral program.
- Candidate’s work envisaged at CERN is part of the thesis work required to obtain PhD.
- Everyday monitoring of the student during the period at CERN will be the responsibility of a CERN Member of Personnel.
- The award of the degree remains the responsibility of the candidate’s university.
- English OR French proficiency must be good.
- ATLAS PhD Grant will cover 2 years funding of the PhD thesis, to be more precise one year at CERN (at a rate of CHF 3.679/month) and one year at the home university/institute at a reduced rate.
Funding includes: monthly living allowance to cover the expenses of a single person in the Geneva area.
