Doctoral Researchers: Crime, Security and Law 1374 views

The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law is inviting applications doctoral researchers. This institute is one of the leading centers for research in public and criminal law and public security matters in Europe. The research conducted in the three departments – Criminology, Public Law, and Criminal Law – is comparative, international, and interdisciplinary.

Responsibilities:
  • There are up to three paid positions for outstanding doctoral students to join the Department of Public Law headed by Professor Dr. Ralf Poscher.
  • Candidates must be interested in public security law, fundamental aspects of general public law, or legal theory and wish to write a doctoral thesis that engages with the premises of positive law or considers new problems and approaches to solutions. Interdisciplinary projects are welcome.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must speak either English or German as their native language (or possess equivalent exceptional language skills in either), have earned a J.D., LL.M., or M.A. (social sciences or humanities) at a renowned English-speaking university, and graduated in the top 5-10% of their class.
  • All applicants must have a marked talent for academic work and academic writing, evidenced by graded term or final papers.
