The Otto Schott Institute for Materials Research, Chair of Materials Science at the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy of Friedrich Schiller University has one open PhD position (m/f/d) for 30 hours/week.

Study area:
  • Creation and understanding of protein nanofibers and protein nanofiber based scaffolds

Qualifications

  • A recently obtained university degree (MSc or diploma) in materials science (preferred), or experimental polymer physics or physical/organic chemistry or biochemistry with excellent study results
  • Research experience in one or more of the following fields: Materials science, Biomaterials, Proteins and/or biopolymers, Tissue regeneration
  • Research experience in the field of materials fabrication (protein based materials, biomaterials, scaffolds, polymers, polymers, hydrogels) and materials characterization (AFM, DLS etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written English and/or German language skills
  • Communication and didactic skills

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Fabrication/synthesis of protein nanofibers
  • Creation, characterization and understanding (structure-property relationships) of degradable protein nanofiber based scaffolds
  • Development of new, groundbreaking materials concepts
  • Participation in the preparation of applications for third-party funding and in project management

Duration: initially for 2 years (part time, 75%).
