The Department of Physics, Quantum Device Lab led by Andreas Wallraff and Christopher Eichler at ETH Zurich invites applications for PhD positions in Superconducting Quantum Computing. The lab conducts state of the art experimental research in quantum information science, cavity quantum electrodynamics and quantum optics with superconducting electronic circuits. In addition, we pursue the development of hybrid quantum systems combining superconductors with semiconductor nanostructures or Rydberg atoms.
About the position:
- The successful candidate will perform collaborative research towards the realization of quantum computing technologies in the context of our EU FETOPEN project Quromorphic.
- The main goal will be to build superconducting quantum neural networks as dedicated quantum machine learning hardware.
- He/she will actively pursue synergies with our EU Quantum Technology Flagship project OpenSuperQ and projects on quantum error correction.
- The project will be embedded in the Swiss Quantum Science and Technology Network QSIT with more than 30 partners across all of Switzerland.
Requirements:
- A strong interest in experimental realizations of quantum information processing systems and dedication to pursue a successful career in research, development or education either in academia or industry are a requirement.
- Candidates to have experience and a proven record in one or more of the following: quantum information processing and its implementations (e.g. superconducting circuits, quantum dots, ion traps, NMR), experimental quantum optics and atomic physics (cavity quantum electrodynamics), micro and nano-electronic devices and their fabrication (clean room lithography and deposition techniques), mesoscopic solid state physics, low temperature physics, transport measurements at dilution refrigerator temperatures, microwave electronics, digital electronics, FPGAs, instrumentation, and software development.
Applications:
Apply online including the following:
- A detailed CV
- Copies of degree certificates and transcripts
- A list of publications
- A statement of research interests containing a short description of background, motivation and skills
- *pdf copies of bachelor and master theses (as available)
- Names of three contacts for references
- Arrange for two of the reference letters to be sent directly by email to wallraff.office@phys.ethz.ch.
