Postdoctoral position: Atomic quantum sensing (Bose-Einstein condensates) 709 views

The Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.

About the position:
  • The successful candidate will be joining the Atomic Quantum Optics group led by Prof. Dr. Morgan Mitchell. Atomic quantum sensing uses the coherence and reproducibility of atomic systems to build extreme sensors, e.g. atomic clocks, gyroscopes and magnetometers.
  • The group is working with single-domain spinor BECs as an atomic sensor system, an approach that promises to escape one of the otherwise fundamental limits of atomic sensing, the density-coherence time trade-off.
  • The selected postdoc researcher will lead experimental work in this area, building upon a running experiment including all-optical evaporation and shot-noise-limited non-destructive probing by Faraday rotation.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized PhD equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) preferably in Physics.
  • Candidate must demonstrate a proven track record of experience with ultracold atoms, high coherence laser systems, control systems, etc.
  • There are NO restrictions of citizenship

Duration: 01 year contract, renewable.

Applications:

Apply online and submit the following documents:

  • Presentation letter with a declaration of interest
  • Curriculum Vitae, including contact details
  • Scanned copies of the complete (Bachelor and Master equivalent) official academic transcripts in English or Spanish
  • The contact e-mail of two potential referees
