ETH Zurich invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in Solar Physics. This position is jointly between the two institutes.
About the position:
- The main duties are to undertake original research in the area of solar physics. Specifically, the topic will be on understanding sources of the solar wind, such as regions of up flowing plasma in active regions or jets.
- The research will lead towards the science of the ESA Solar Orbiter mission which is due to be launched in February 2020. PMOD/WRC are involved in two instruments onboard (the EUV imagers, and the EUV spectrometer, SPICE), and it is now timely to focus research this topic.
- There are also opportunities to work with data from the new 4m telescope DKIST that will have first light at the end of 2019.
- The selected candidate should collaborate actively within the Solar Orbiter team to prepare for the imminent, new scientific opportunities.
Requirements:
- Applicant must hold a PhD in a relevant area.
- Candidate should have demonstrated expertise in solar physics through the writing and dissemination of research results in papers and presentations.
- Candidate should have expertise in scientific programming (e.g. IDL, Python). It is essential that you can work in a team, as well as independently.
