Postdoctoral Research Fellowship: Political Science 1028 views

The Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) invites applications for an eleven-month postdoctoral research fellowship. The position is part of the research project ‘Why we measure the economy the way we do’, led by prof. Dr. Daniel Mügge and funded by the Dutch National Science Organisation (NWO).

Research fields:
  • the drivers of political choices for any particular measurement approach underlying a central macroeconomic indicator, either within one or more OECD countries, or at the European Union level
  • One example would be choice for particular indicators; underpinning the European Employment Strategy or the Macroeconomic Imbalances Procedure;
  • the consequence of such an indicators choice, either for policy or in terms of socio-economic outcomes more generally;
  • the critical assessment of the role that macroeconomic statistics play in political life, for example the role they play in vote choice or other political decisions;
  • the degree to and particular way in which citizens understand macroeconomic statistics

Requirements:

  • Applicant must hold completed doctoral thesis in Political Science, Communication Science and Sociology.
  • Applicant must hold command of the requisite research methods
  • Applicant must demonstrate an ongoing programme of research and publications, focused on international peer-reviewed journals and/or books published by internationally recognised academic presses;
  • Evidence of affinity with the topic and approach of the research project as a whole.
