Postdoctoral researcher in Experimental Materials Science 1752 views

The University of Luxembourg invites applications for the vacancy in its Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine as Postdoctoral researcher in experimental Materials Science (m/f) Ref: 50016059. The position is 1-year fixed-term contract (Full-time, 40 h/week).

Role and Responsibilities:
  • The position is available in the group “Multifunctional ferroic materials” led by Prof. Jens Kreisel in the Department of Physics and Materials Science (PhyMS).
  • This position also involves a very strong collaboration with the research group “Ferroic Materials for Transducers (FMT) at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST).
  • Both research groups carry out investigations of ferroic materials, from the fundamental understanding of their coupling mechanisms to proof-of-concepts for devices exploiting those properties.
  • Current research topics include notably: antiferroelectrics, piezoelectrics, light-induced phenomena in ferroic materials, strain effects, electrocalorics etc.
  • The recruited post-doctoral researcher will focus mostly on inorganic materials with the perovskite structure and the characterization of their structural, photoferroelectric and pyroelectric properties.
  • The work will focus on low-band gap ferroelectric materials, where interactions with light and piezo- and pyroelectric properties are expected to co-exist.
  • Their phase diagram and behaviour in the vicinity of their ferroic transitions will be explored with varying temperature or pressure, using photocurrent measurements, Raman spectroscopy etc.
  • Characterization of physical properties will be carried out having in mind possible applications for multi-effect energy harvesting.

Requirements:

  • The position is open to strong applicants with backgrounds in solid state physics, and preferably previous experience with experimental work on ferroic materials and phase transitions.
  • Previous experience with Raman spectroscopy would be appreciated.

Applications:

Apply online and the application should include:

  • A CV, including contacts for references
  • A motivation letter
