The Institute for Materials and Wood Technology at Bern University of Applied Sciences is inviting applications for a new team member at the research group Wood and Polymer Chemistry. The position Research Assistant Polymer Chemistry will be filled on October 1st 2019.
Tasks and duties:
- Planning and execution of various syntheses (including production of target compounds and controlled polymerization reactions)
- Preparation of material samples for further characterization
- Chemical and physical characterization of the obtained products
- Logging, interpretation and communication of the results
Requirements:
- Applicant must have at minimum a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent qualification) in chemistry.
- Applicant must have an interest in application-oriented research in which you show initiative, quality-conscious and customer-oriented work
- Good knowledge and relevant research experience in organic chemistry and/or polymer chemistry is required
- Good knowledge and practice in common purification techniques as well as chemistry characterization techniques (HPLC, GPC/SEC, FT-IR, NMR)
- Some experience in polymer science and adhesives chemistry would be of advantage, especially polymer characterization (TGA, DSC, rheology). Experience in composites and extrusion is also a bonus
- Applicant must possess ability to communicate in English. French and/or German would be appreciated
- Safe laboratory practices are essential
