Japan Foundation for UNU (JFUNU) Scholarship: PhD Program in Sustainability Science (2019)
The JFUNU program will equip graduate students with multidisciplinary knowledge of sustainability problems to deepen their understanding the role of environmental sustainability in addressing issues related to global change.
PhD students will gain critical thinking and problem-solving skills through coursework and research.
Notes:
- The duration of PhD in Sustainability Science program is 3 years.
- The program starts in September.
The UNU Library offers access to a wide range of academic books, over 20,000 electronic journals and publications in the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development e-libraries.
Students will also have access to the libraries of Ochanomizu University, International Christian University, Temple University Japan, Sophia University, and The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies.
A dedicated computer lab is also provided for students, with software to furnish to the needs of each course, including environmental modelling applications, GIS, and statistical analysis tools.
Moreover, students will access to international conferences, workshops, and symposiums organized at the university.
Student Support
UNU-IAS will assist students from the time of their initial registration to graduation.
Admission Requirements
- Strong interest in sustainability science;
- Master’s degree in disciplines related to sustainability science studies
- 2 years of practical field experience (minimum) related to UNU-IAS research themes areas
- English language proficiency
